The
International Olympic Committee Executive Board has "approved the
consensus proposed by the IOC Medical Commission, which cites the
conditions to be respected by an individual who has changed sex
in order to take part in sports competitions." The conditions include
legal recognition of their "new gender" and a minimum two-year period
of postoperative hormone therapy. Does this mark the end of truly
female participation in the Olympics? It would appear that the Olympics
will, in effect, return to its original form: All-male competition.
